Seasonal hiring patterns distort year-over-year funnel comparisons when cohort labels drift. Campus intake in February and experienced hire pushes in September should not share a single applied-to-hired trend line.

We label cohorts by entry month and role family at data intake. That sounds basic, but ATS exports often merge requisition types under one req ID prefix. Cleaning those prefixes is unglamorous and essential.

Q4 frequently looks like a conversion collapse when graduate offers accept in Q1 but experienced roles slow for year-end budget holds. Separate cohort charts reveal whether the TA team underperformed or the calendar intervened.

For monthly briefing clients, we include a seasonal index page comparing current month velocity to the same month in prior years, adjusted for headcount plan changes. It prevents panic emails when November application volume dips.
